I would probably self-identify as a female rural West Coast (of USA) Caucasian, but that wouldn't include, as labels often don't, my journey from a small monocultural mill town to a solo sabbatical in six countries (in '91). Now I'm on to the exciting sojourn of retirement (from full-time worklife five years ago). I love travel and art and aesthetics, as well as almost all cats and dogs I've met. This blog is just for fun and experimenting with the tools. It should be amusing...

I'll list some study abroad and adventures abroad here

NO EDUCATION IS COMPLETE WITHOUT INTERCULTURAL EXPERIENCES!!

These are some of the best known resources for finding great opportunities! Don't forget any consortium which may be connected with your current school, or possibilities through local service clubs such as Rotary!

PS. AN INTERCULTURAL EXPERIENCE CAN BE ACROSS THE STREET, TOO!

ALL THE BERNARDS YOU CAN USE

STILL LEARNING HOW TO UPLOAD;
GETTA LOAD OF THIS WEBRING!
By the way, my childhood companion in my Pacific Northwest childhood was a grandaughter of the famous St. Bernard on the old TOPPER show!
My Heidi was born on Prune Hill in Camas, WA, in a large litter, about 1953 or '54; she was about half short-haired and half longish haired, I recall....that's all I know as I was about 5 when she came home with us. Anyone connect with that from a dog perspective, or something else?
Thanks....~KWW
P.S.: Good grief--look at these canine choices!

MY FAVORITE ALUMNI CONNECTION CORNER

CALLING ALL ALUMNI AND FRIENDS
FROM THAT CLUB OR CLASS OF OURS!!
Hello, Everyone!
I'm playing with this blog to learn how it can help with sharing and communication now that I've just retired. My computer's address book crashed, so I wasn't able to send this to you until now (thanks, you know who!). My other "serious blog" is available through the "Complete Profile" click.
Please let me know what you're up to, and share my info with other alums from our time together. If you give me permission, we can use this as an updating area.
Or you can use my home email as always, williams@snowcrest.net. Are you working in an area that your education led you towards? What are you doing for fun and hobbies? Can we visit you wherever you are!? ;)
Michael and I are fine and enjoying traveling all over the West Coast. Plan to come to the 50th reunion next year--we can plan another great BBQ!
Very best wishes, ~Kathi (who has all the old photo albums)

I have yet to read these in depth or verify...carpe canem.

DOGS ARE FROM A DIFFERENT CULTURE...

On the Subject of Pets, Childhood and Otherwise....

Being now owned by three long-resident felines, I now regard my friends' canine creatures with intercultural interest, both near and far. There's no place like a dog park or a backyard potluck with the pups for a world of metaphors...

We've recently visited good friends who are served by an elderly, stately Golden Retriever, in one household; two synchronized, white female hyper Jack Russells in another. On the same trip, we found a dreamy, cozy, marvelous motel (off season) presided over by two ancient female Pugs who sun themselves as the shadows cross the palm trees.

Maybe a medium-sized dog would be great when we ever slow down...I recently met a wonderful tri-color Australian Shepherd who must have been the cutest fluffball.

But then I enjoy most things Australian. I spent a month there in '91 and loved every minute. After Bali, and before Japan.

C'mon now, somebody chime in, bark bark...

SOME THOUGHTFUL QUOTATIONS TO CONSIDER

I'm thinking of these in the context of facilitating learning, as well as aesthetically and metaphorically. What do they bring to your mind?

SOME OF OUR FAVORITE PLACES TO STAY

Here are Some Delightful Spots We Like to Visit:

http://www.moteldelrogue.com: Reasonable, friendly, with great innkeepers, and a gorgeous riverside setting near Grant's Pass. OR! We've been visiting this delightful place for the last five years. Some of my friends and I have an annual "Cooling Women" retreat here, while the husbands go somewhere else.

http://www.sailorjack.com: This is a real bargain, some thirty steps above a very long, wide beach in Lincoln City, OR. There is a sauna on the second floor. We recommend staying on the bottom floor so you can enjoy the little balconies. Pets are welcome in some rooms, and it's near a discount outlet, ( with Coldwater Creek!), as well as a huge casino.

http://www.wheeleronthebay.com/index.shtml: This little gem is right on Nehalem Bay further up the Oregon Coast. Most rooms have great tub-saunas, you can rent a kayak, and the wildlife is terrific!

http://www.coyoteinn.net/: This is where I'd take my friends if I won the lottery. Home of those sunbathing pugs.

MY SISTER WAS A ST BERNARD

...adventures of a '50's pacific northwest childhood and beyond...
Howdy there....I have another serious blog, but this is one to play with and learn from as I share a different side of myself and my o'hana (Hawaiian for extended family circle). I'm very new to this, and I've been cruising many other blogs on a steep learning curve while the snow piles up (again) outside our rural woodsy home.
I really did have a dog sister, and as an only child growing (half-way) up overlooking the Columbia River in Washington state, my large pet Heidi became a symbol of a middle-class childhood long before I knew what class meant.
I've spent my 50+ years living and working and playing all over the West Coast of the USA, and now my hubby and I enjoy serendipitous road trips which often end up in marvelous places which I'll recommend to you fellow space and time travelers as I can.
Next step is to figure out how to upload pictures and construct something interesting....how do you get links to parade down the right or left side on this program!?
Cheers, ~Kathi
